Lately I have been getting new followers, so what better timing to do a get to know me blog! I found a tag some of you have done, and decided to do one myself so you guys get to know me a bit!

  1. what do you order at starbucks? you’ll rarely catch me at starbucks! I’m definitely a dunkin type of girl! but I don’t even remember last time I have entered dunkin! I’m trying to make healthier choices and trying to make health and fitness a lifestyle so I make my own coffee to insure more healthier ingredients are going into my coffee!
  2. one thing in your closet you can’t live with out? leggings& yoga pants hands down!
  3. what’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I’m actually not sure how to answer this question, I’m an open book, I feel that people know everything about me!
  4. name one thing you want to do before you die? travel the world for sure!

museum of life and science adventures

When it’s a bit too cold to spend the day outdoors, but you and your friend don’t  want to be stuck in the apartment all day, you think of other adventures to get into! This museum has a lot of exhibits both indoor/outdoor. It has aerospace, wildlife, dinosaur trail, farmyard and so much more. Perfect for all age groups and family friendly! many things for the kiddos to get into!

nascar hall of fame!

When you live about 3 hours away from Charlotte, and North Carolina’s main point of interest is Nascar hall of fame, and you don’t check it out is your life really complete? This place is so neat, my friend and I seriously spent like three hours here checking everything out! if you’re in the area, you must definitely pay a visit! They have very cool exhibits, even if you’re not a nascar fan you’ll enjoy it! They also have cool interactive stations. After checking out all the exhibits and doing all the activities they had, my friend and I had lunch at their café. Fun adventurous day for sure!

apartment tour/ decor/furniture haul

I know this blog post is long over due, I’m sorry for procrastinating guys! I have been out and about running errands and exploring this state a bit! Last week my friend was here for the week helping me move in, so after we were done with unpacking/ assembling furniture we got out and explored a bit! Move in weekend was quite interesting none the less. North Carolina gets snow once or twice a year, so of course on move in day NC would get hit with snow and ice. ( legend has it I brought the NY snow along with me) Snow down south is no joke, folks down here are not prepared for snow or ice at all. When we went grocery shopping that night people were in panic mode buying out the entire Walmart, I kid you not the shelves were completely empty!! Coming from NY I didn’t see what the big deal is about snow or ice, until couple days went by and there was still ice every where you went and businesses were still closed. In NY they take care of snow and ice the same day so us New  Yorkers were mind blown! The following day my friend and I were house bound so I decided to unpack all my clothes and shoes and get my closet organized. The following day which was Sunday, my friend and I went to biglots and I picked out all my furniture. If your’re on a budget and want good furniture big lots is your new friend! The following day we got a uhaul and carried the furniture up into the apartment. oh what a fun time, just the two of us, ice every where, and hauling heavy furniture up these huge steps to the third floor! fun fun! Well we made it with out dropping anything or killing ourselves down those stairs! We used the iced sidewalks to our advantage! Since everything was packaged good and we knew we wouldn’t scratch any furniture we just slid the very heavy stuff through ice and it slid easily! carrying things up those stairs is just another story! But we survived!! I’m all settled in and  feel right at home! This community is great and moving to this state was the best decision I have yet made!

Shower curtain and mats from biglots and towel I believe Kohl’s! For the bathroom I went for the teal/ green combination as I did for my room I guess that’s my new color!

I love that my bathroom has a full wall mirror & is very spascious!perfect for doing hair & make up! I love it!

Washer/ dryer/ storage! I love that it has closing doors!

Love that everything in this apartment is painted white including kitchen cabinets it gives a very welcoming/cozy feel& brightens up the rooms! My kitchen is small but since the rest of the apartment is spacious can’t complain!

Life’s necessity!

Nothing more welcoming than a fireplace! That was the first thing I seen when I opened the front door move in night& I was ecstatic! I always wanted a fireplace it gives off such a cozy vibe & this is my most favorite thing about the apartment! Not to mention such an easy & fun way to decorate! I’ll be changing the decor up by seasons but for now I went with a gold/white/silver combo for my living room. Keeping things neutral & elegant! All fireplace decor was purchased at either Ross/marshalls/ tj maxx.

I bought this wall decor at Burlington. My friend went out and got hooks, made it into a fun DIY project and made me a key holder & let me tell you how useful it has been. I never lose my keys any more and when I’m in a hurry it’s there for quick grab!

A big thank you to my friend who has done so much and put in so much work into moving me in! From hauling this heavy furniture, to assembling each and every one of those furniture pieces, to keeping me company all week and helping me get used to this new life style! It makes a world of difference to have some one with you for move in week when you don’t know a soul in the state and feeling home sick.Forever I’ll be grateful for everything!truly blessed to have such an awesome friend! Not to mention my friend drove 500 miles to help me!Couldn’t have done it with out my friends help! 

occoneechee mountain adventures

Moving to a new state means several things, one being new adventures! North Carolina is absolutely beautiful, no matter which direction you take you will run into either mountains or beaches! My adventurous soul is very happy in this state. After a hectic couple days of moving in, my friend and I decided we really needed to get out of the apartment and explore! It was a gorgeous day we decided to go hiking!

 

I think we took the longest path possible but for these views totally worth it! I’m such a hiking enthusiast! Mountains have my heart! Can’t wait to explore other mountains here!

time to get back in shape! It’s been probably 2 months since I stepped foot into a gym and now that I have an apartment that has a fitness center on site there’s no more excuses for not squeezing these work outs in. still experimenting with how I’m going to break my work outs up, yesterday was arm day, today gluets and tomorrow legs. Every day I incorporate an hour high intensity cardio session whether it be elliptical or treadmill. trying to get into food prepping also, yesterday’s was a success. Fun fitness blogs coming soon!

How My Blog Started:

I originally started blogging with the intentions of making it physical therapy based to help out other students with tips and tricks for getting through physical therapy schooling and passing the most dreaded boards exam. After I got done with schooling I wanted nothing to do with PT for awhile other than just working at a PT clinic , so I started life style blogging and kind of stuck with it.

First of, I want to start with thanking BeaFree for nominating me to do this quiz! and secondly apologizing for being MIA these past couple of weeks! I have been in the process of packing and moving to a new state. I’m finally all moved in ( huge big thank you to my friend for the big help on move in day) so now I can get back to blogging! What was your highlight of 2016?

The highlight of 2016 was, getting a new job, finding a new apartment, and moving to a new state in beginning of 2017. This was also my year of travels! from day trips here and there to flying across the US to visit my aunt and uncle in Seattle! I feel that I spent the majority of my days on the road and wouldn’t want it any other way.

 

Name one thing you are likely to remember about 2016 if asked in five years time?

All my adventures I got into! especially my hiking trips, there’s always a fun story to go along with those trips!

Do you have any new year resolutions?

This year I would like to get more into fitness and eating healthy( like every year) except this year ill hold myself accountable to this! I also want to explore new places and get into more adventures! I want to be more involved at church!

physical therapy for the geriatric poulation

Can you tell I’m a little excited for my new job in assisted living ? I promise I will have more of these physical therapy blogs coming your way this year. I know I have been really slacking with these type of blogs. Previously I worked as a therapist in a skilled nursing facility where patients are more dependent and bed bound for the most part, so they can’t do more than light stretching and easy strengthening exercises/ beginners balance training and gait. So I’m very excited to start working with patients who are Independent for the most part and can do advanced strengthening exercises, balance, gait. It’ll definetely be alot more interesting to work with these type of patients. If you’re a physical therapy student or a clinician i hope this blog gives you some inspiration and ideas for treatment. When I was a student I always loved reading these type of blogs to get new ideas!

So what does geriatric rehab consist of?

exercise:

  • concentrate on strengthening LE especially ankle/core muscles affecting motor control.
  • reduce joint pain/ instability
  • correct postural faults

Exercise is effective in reducing falls!!

balance retraining:

  • target neuromuscular systems that control balance through various levels of challenge.
  • begin with controlling COG over BOS
  • progress by challenging the regulation of balance and postural stability specifically engaging visual, vestibular, somatosensory, and cognitive systems.
  • elicit postural reactions and ankle , hip , and step strategies by altering satimuli surfaces

gait training:

  • include all components of gait in addition to appropriate and accurately adjusted devices and challenge and advance with changes in surfaces/terrains/ elevations
